At RISE we consider Somatic Therapy a Holistic Approach to healing the connection of the mind, body, and spirit. Through a variety of techniques and differently modalities our staff has been trained in, we assess where our client are at and what their particular therapeutic needs are.
Some additional information – Somatic Therapy is when practitioners use psychotherapy that focuses on holistic healing and the mind body connection through talk therapy combined with mind-body exercises and other physical techniques to release pent up tension or energy in the body negatively impacting your physical, spiritual, and emotional well being.
Somatic experiencing probably the most well known type of Somatic Therapy available, however, there are many variations and techniques that may be used in addition to this. Somatic Experiencing is a form of alternative therapy aimed at relieving the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mental and physical trauma-related health problems by focusing on the client’s perceived body sensations (or somatic experiences). It was created by trauma therapist Peter A. Levine.
Somatic Therapy is especially helpful for people struggling with PTSD, Dissociation, Strass, Anxiety, Depression, Grief, Addiction, Problems with Relationships, and a history of past Trauma and Abuse. Talk Therapy and more traditional approaches have not been helpful in relieving or healing the chronic physical pain, digestive disorders, and other medical issues that have also shown benefits from this type of therapy. Somatic Therapy can be used in both individual and group therapy settings.
